Ascent of Gran Paradiso, the 4000 m from the South, in the Aosta Valley

The Grand Paradis is accessible to any good walker (PD). From its summit, you will discover a breathtaking view of the surrounding massifs, from Mont-Blanc to the Matterhorn, via the Ecrins, the Combins, to the Po plain, Turin, and even the Mediterranean in exceptional conditions. . Its ascent takes 2 days, with a stop on the way up in one of the 2 refuges on the normal route. The final assault is mainly done on crampons on the glacier (easy walk), with a small, very short terminal part on rocks.

Program :

Day 1

• Meet in Pont (Valsavarenche) with your guide at 2:30 p.m.
• Ascent on foot to the Chabod or Vittorio Emmanuel refuge
• Elevation gain + 750m / 2h30 walk
• Night with half board at the refuge (drinks and showers not included)

Day 2

• Departure at approx. 4h30 (schedule to be agreed by your guide) for the summit of Gran Paradiso
• Elevation gain + 1300m / 6 to 10h walk with return to the valley (refuge – car provided without guide)
• Night in your charming hotel
• take it easy

The program can be modified at any time, according to your guide’s decision, due to weather conditions, the mountain or your level.

CHABOD or VITTORIO EMMANUEL refuge (D1)

At more than 2700 m, after about 2h30 of walking, your refuge dominates your climb and run the next day, in an increasingly mineral environment. The guards are nice, and above all, they cook well. Be careful, you are in a refuge, but in Italy! Bar, restaurant, paying hot showers, room for 4 to 5 people, subject to availability, terrace and setting sun, this is what you should find either at Refuge Chabod or at Vittorio Emmanuel.

Your mountain guide (or aspiring guide)

• In Aosta Valley, we are used to working with independent UIAGM guides from the region. The name of your guide as well as his contact details will be confirmed to you in principle at the time of the final reservation but at the latest the day before your arrival at the hotel.
• Your guide will contact you by phone the day before your arrival to arrange a meeting, which will take place around 2:30 p.m. in Pont (D2). The final schedule and program will be agreed with him, depending on the conditions and the various parameters that your guide will assess.
